What makes this program unique?

The combination of four major elements:

  • Personal and unique learning goals for each participant take into account their existing skills and experience.
  • Syndicates are used in which managers can learn in the context of the organisation, from their fellow participants, in ways best suited to their own needs.
  • Your organisation gets a direct benefit through the participants’ objectives being tied to those of the organisation.
  • Significant progress is made in a short time.

How does the program start?

On the first day, each participant creates their own development program.

What happens after that?

Participants learn from each other in facilitated syndicates. The facilitator is an experienced public servant.

How long does the program run?

The suggested program length is six months with four contact days in total:

  • one full day at the beginning;
  • four half days run at monthly intervals;
  • one full day at the end.

This sequence can be tailored as required, but the intervals are designed to allow you to put your new leadership and management skills into practise and return with specific queries on how to make process improvements along the way.

Is there any 'homework'?

Yes, but not much! Each participant will follow a workbook which guides them through the program.

How is the program evaluated?

Each participant’s development program includes objectives of value to the participant, the syndicate and the organisation. On the last day, the group will review how each participant benefited from the program.

Does the organisation get any other benefits?

Definitely. Being so integrated tends to assist retention of senior staff.

Do participants get any other benefits?

Yes! Other benefits include:

  • becoming part of a much closer linked team;
  • becoming a coach and mentor for other participants of their syndicate;
  • additional learning through being engaged as others explore their development topics. It is common for participants to bring a particularly difficult issue to the syndicate to work through before addressing it in real life. Moreover, many participants note that they ‘feel better’ and more confident after a syndicate meeting.

What academic checks have been used to assess the course?

The program has been tied to academic research and the course design and approach has been assessed as part of an MBA at Sussex University, UK.

How many participants do you need to run the program?

Minimum of six, but larger groups can offer a better experience.

How much does the program cost?

The public sector rate can be as low as $400 (plus GST) per participant per contact day. This price includes all materials and facilitation, but excludes accommodation and refreshments, which can be arranged for an additional charge.
